Icarus Flew Too High
The painting of Bruegel appears to have a lot of questions about high flying or non-achievement, flying too low.
It also shows how people turn away from others’ problems and continue with their own lives.
It is the fabric of everyday workers who contribute to and keep society running; the reward is not always great, long hours, and little pay; doctors, nurses, teachers, road sweepers, etc.
Icarus and his father were imprisoned for power-grabbing, yet they devised an ingenious escape. We cannot escape problems.
Many politicians who grab power by force risk prosecution or imprisonment. Whistleblowers risk their lives uncovering illegal activities.
Daphne Caruana Galizia uncovered the Panama Papers. Politicians had hidden monies away. Daphne did not turn away from threats; she knew she was going to be murdered for her detective work. She was a Maltese journalist blown up by a car bomb.
