Al Fresco
Every day this summer, my yard has been the place for breakfast and lunch…..A hot sunny summer…
Love to be outdoors. My guest, who came for six days, loved eating there. My courtyard ( below).
Inspiration was a Moroccan courtyard (below), blue and white.
Of course, my courtyard is not so grand. And I couldn’t tile such a large project, although I love tiling and mosaics.
This is my friend’s kitchen table, adjoining an open-plan kitchen.
Although I have a large kitchen, I never got around to buying a dining table. My small garden is partly roofed, as is my courtyard, and I like to eat there. I have a small table and fold-up chairs, so I can accommodate a few people for parties or eating outside.
This is his summer dining room. It was originally an open balcony.
Sometimes, I pack a lunch and eat in the favorite garden of a hotel that I visit. It’s so peaceful. I used to take a packed lunch to the beach, but it’s crowded these days.
Crowds are not for me.
Do you like to picnic? Eat in the fresh air, in a restaurant, in your garden or at the beach?
Do you have a picnic hamper, and what would you pack for lunch?

Different Types Of Falling

Falling leaves of Autumn fascinate with colors of gold, red russet, brown. It’s my favorite season. The smell of wood smoke and crunchy leaves underfoot. Fun for animals.
Nat King Cole - Autumn Leaves
I was cutting tree branches 30 ft up a ladder, pulled on that snapped, and fell backwards.
I remembered a man whose parachute did not open at 130 ft. He fell into a field, got up and walked away. He said relax distribute weight and fall flat on your back. Do not fall forward, you would rupture every organ.
I relaxed and meditated, stretched my arms out and flew like a bird. I fell onto concrete, between my well and a metal table. The advice is to stay down. I looked at the sky. Wiggled my toes, back not broken…
Rolled to the side, got up and made coffee.
How lucky was that, that man’s story saved my life.
A couple of days later, a workman fell from a height of six feet and died.
I would be terrified to jump off a building. I’m afraid of heights.
No way can I dive from a high diving board.
Should you fall on the floor, you can pile books or cushions to get up if you are older. Roll over and crawl to a piece of furniture.
I don’t believe you could survive a fall from a high building easily.
Now catch a falling star 💫

How Times Have Changed
My cousin and I used to sit around our kitchen table, listening to my Grandmother regaling her tales.
She talked about the war a lot (with tears in her eyes), about bombs dropping, and the buzz bombs. She lost four brothers in two wars. My mother remembered the red skies from burning London.
The Second World War was the war to end all wars. But man has not changed his penchant for war, and wars continue today, advanced further by AI weaponry.
My grandmother was born in 1890. She was the family beauty. She also took ten years off her age, and we all believed her. It was only later that I found her birth certificate and was astounded.
I often wonder what she would do these days if she came back to our high-tech world.
She told us about the cat whisker radios and phones. Queen Victoria was the very first person to speak on the phone. Social media has now become our norm for communication.
As a child, I played in the sunny garden with an old-fashioned gramophone, and 78 records, hours of fascination. Then records were downsized, then tapes arrived, and the next best thing were CDs. Now we search on the internet for music. Music has evolved at a fast pace and many different styles.
The global economy has shifted towards digital currencies. I no longer read a real newspaper as I once did on a daily basis.
There are government responses to pandemics, medical technology, and telehealth now exist.
Attitudes have changed towards gender, sexuality and race.
Have advancements moved us forward or backwards in many respects? Could you live happily without technology? Do you yearn for lost freedoms? Travel was much easier in the sixties and seventies. I was a huge globetrotter, but now I find airports and some aspects of travel a hassle.
